Itinerary
Day 1 - Zanzibar
When you arrive at Zanzibar's International Airport you will be collected from the airport and transferred to your 5-star luxury resort on gorgeous Nungwi Beach, at the northern tip of the island. The transfer will take about an hour and give you a glimpse of rural Zanzibar. When you arrive at the resort, you'll check in and have the rest of the day free to relax and unwind. You'll need it, as just this morning you work up in a bush camp in the Serengeti!
This evening you'll enjoy dinner at the resort's excellent restaurant, then you can find the perfect spot to relax and have a drink overlooking the sea.
Day 2 - Stone Town and Spices
After breakfast this morning you’ll be picked up for your private Stone Town tour. The oldest part of Zanzibar City, Stone Town was once the trade center of the east coast of Africa and the center of the slave trade before all moved to the mainland. Remnants of the slave trade days can still be found in Stone Town, along with many other relics of a bygone age, such as the iconic ornately carved wooden doors and winding streets lined with local shops and markets. In fact early explorers such as Livingston used the town as a base during their exploration days. Today Stone Town is a world heritage site for its architecture and history.
Later today you'll enjoy an aromatic journey, exploring spice farms, enjoying stories of the spice trades that brought great wealth and fame to Zanzibar when the Omanis arrived. Taste and buy the spices, learn about their origins, how they are farmed, and how they are used by locals to prepare rich and fragrant dishes, or join a cooking class (optional) and put them to use yourself. After the spice tour, you may find yourself a little more sentimental and cautious about which spices you buy and use the next time you find yourself in the kitchen.
This afternoon you'll be transferred back to Nungwi to your fabulous beach resort, to while away the day in relaxation and indulgence.
Day 3 - Go Get Lost Day
Today you can do as you please...spend the whole day at the resort if you want. Or take advantage of one of the many other tours and activities Zanzibar has to offer. Perhaps a cooking class to learn the secrets of the spices you were introduced to yesterday, or a sail to nearby Kwale Island on a traditional wooden dhow, when you can explore Menai Bay , famous for dolphins. Some might enjoy to explore Kuza Cave and Blue Lagoon Atoll on a snorkeling excursion. Or have a boat take you to Nakupenda Beach, an amazing sandbank located just off Stone Town, filled with brilliant bird life, white sand and crystalline water. Another option is a tour of Jozani Forest to see the red Colobus monkeys, an endangered species native to Zanzibar. Or head off to Prison Island to see the giant Aldabra tortoises , check out the slave jail and relax on the beautiful white sand beach.
Late in the afternoon you'll meet at the resort and board your private Dhow for a sunset cruise. Watching the sunset with a cold beer or soda, while sailing on a traditional Dhow boat is an experience that everyone visiting Zanzibar must have. The tour begins with a trip to the local fishing market where you can see how the traditional Dhow boats are built and learn about their history. The adventure then continues to a coral reef where you can snorkel with some of the island’s most beautiful aquatic creatures before sailing along the coast to watch the magnificent sunset. Dinner at the resort will follow. The perfect end to a fun-filled day!
Day 4 - Farewell
After breakfast this morning you'll hang out at the resort until it's time to transfer you to Stone Town and your departure flight.
