With this in mind we have long partnered with Kiva to provide micro-loans to people in underserved communities around the world. From a new fishing net to community solar power, it’s easy to help fund a loan that changes someone’s life. We encourage our travelers to lend a hand, especially in the destinations we visit.
Changing Lives, One Loan at a Time
Kiva uses crowdfunded microloans as a force for good, creating a space where people can have one-to-one impact, and together, expand financial access for all. Kiva defines impact both in the scale of their global reach and the depth of change in a person’s life. From the millions of micro-loans they’ve distributed, to the increased monthly income for a widowed shop owner in Kenya — dive into how Kiva creates positive impact in the world. How Kiva Works.
A Commitment to Real Impact
It all began in March 2005, when the first loan on kiva.org was funded. Elizabeth, a woman in Uganda, used her $500 Kiva loan to expand her fish-mongering business, traveling to purchase fish by the basket to sell at local markets. That $500 changed her life.
Nineteen years later, 5 million people have used Kiva loans to change theirs.
