Want to see the green countryside of Tuscany and the cliff side views of the Amalfi Coast? Looking for a unique tour of Italy? Want to experience the food and wine of Italy like a local?
The owners of Go Get Lost, Jeff and Steve Fafolgia, have been personally leading tours throughout Italy for almost 20 years. Join them on their small group tour of Tuscany and the Amalfi Coast and you’ll experience Italy from a unique point of view, as they share their favorite restaurants, walks, tours, and sites.
Exploring Tuscany and the Amalfi Coast
On this vacation, we’ll explore both Tuscany and the Amalfi Coast, two vastly different regions of what many travelers consider to be the best Italy has to offer in scenery, culture, food and wine. On nearly every day you’ll have options for easy walks or more challenging adventures as we make our way through this once in a lifetime experience.
Classic Tuscany…birthplace of the Renaissance, home to some of the world’s best cuisine, wine, and picture-postcard landscapes. Our walks through the Tuscan countryside offer marvelous views of ancient castles, vineyard covered hillsides, and tiny walled towns that date to Roman times. After one of our best Tuscan walks through the vineyards of the Chianti region we’ll enjoy a picnic lunch in a stunning medieval castle on the Brolio Estate. A fascinating visit to a town that predates the Romans is the beginning of a path once trod by the ancient Etruscans.
After Tuscany we walk into a completely different world as we journey to the Amalfi Coast, one of the most beautiful coastlines on the planet. Tiny pastel villages perched precariously on impossibly steep hillsides that plunge into the blue water of the Mediterranean. Trails that wind over the cliffs and offer views that are as unbelievable as they are breathtaking. We’ll wander the amazing city of Pompeii, preserved by a volcanic eruption and covered in ash for almost 2000 years. Beautiful valleys cut into the coastal mountains provide excellent access to explore towns and villages not seen by the bus tourists. We’ll visit a local farm and see how the best mozzarella in Italy is produced, (of course we’ll eat and drink lots of the farm’s produce, too) and get a chance to roll up our sleeves and make pizza at a wood-fired oven. The highlight of this trip is the incredible trail named “Pathway of the Gods” for its godlike views of the coastline. Once you’ve walked the “Pathway of the Gods” you’ll understand why this area is one of our most popular places to visit…and re-visit!
True to our “get lost” philosophy, we’ll ease into the pulse of the Italian experience and find the real Italy…we’ll walk the walks, feast on the food, meet the people, and live the life.
Not ready to go home? Then join us on an extension as we explore the ancient history of Rome, including the St Peter’s Basilica, Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, the Vatican, and more.
“In a sense, this trip changed my whole life! I will highly recommend it to anyone who wants to experience Italy the right way.” -Roger P. (California)
Experience the Food
It’s likely not a surprise that the cuisine of Italy is considered by many to be the best in the world. On this trip, you’ll get first-hand experience in exactly how Italy got this reputation. At Go Get Lost, we love great food. On this trip, we’ll introduce you to some of our favorite restaurants of the region, where we’ll enjoy classic Italian cuisines just like the locals. From places like the Podere Villuzza, where the Leanza family will have a sumptuous Tuscan feast prepared for us to a visit to the Marciano family farm where we join Maria at the wood-fired pizza oven to learn how to make a “real” pizza, Napolitano style! Fashioning our own creations and then enjoying our culinary “masterpieces”.
Have you heard of our trailside picnics? We won’t break our arms patting ourselves on the back, but they have become one of the highlights of our trips. Jeff and Steve, the owners of Go Get Lost personally prepare you an incredible selection of regional meats, cheeses, breads, vegetables, and more. Ever tried a slice of fresh pear on a piece of Pecorino cheese with a touch of honey? You will and you will love it! Imagine walking down a long picnic table of colorful foods to choose, building your own plate of your personal favorites while trying something new. Did we mention we’ll have several bottles of our favorite regional vino? You grab a glass of red or white and then take a seat overlooking one of the incredible valleys of Tuscany, and relax with a light breeze at your back. This my friends, is one of the greatest experiences you can have in Italy.
Relax & Enjoy Some Wine
Italy is world renowned for it’s wines and has some of the oldest wine producers in the world. Grape vineyards are found in nearly every region and are one of the hallmark landscapes of Italy. We’ll get the opportunity to taste a variety of wines on this trip, whether you’re new to wine or have been enjoying wine all your life, this is a great opportunity to experience some of the incredible wines that Italy has to offer. Not only will you have the opportunity to try wines with your meals, but we’ll enjoy five wine tastings throughout our journey.
Many of Italy’s wines are well known throughout the world and you’ll get the opportunity to taste them. Whether it’s a silky white made from the ancient Falanghina to a full-bodied red such as a Taurasi, one of the most famous red wines of Italy. You’ll walk away with a greater appreciation for the process, taste, and enjoyment of a great glass of wine. Paired with with an incredible Italian dish? Now that’s an experience you’ll remember for a lifetime.
Experience a Unique Italy
In true Go Get Lost style, we strive to get off the beaten path in Italy. Sure, we’ll visit the more popular attractions of the area, such as Pompeii, Pathway of the Gods, and more…But, we’ll do it our way.
However, what really sets us apart is seeing the real Italy. Like visiting an actual working family farm overlooking Sorrento and the Gulf of Naples, where they still use methods that have been handed down from generation to generation for hundreds and sometimes thousands of years! Oranges, lemons, grapes, olives, and milk cows for mozzarella cheese are the staples of the farm. We’ll even get to sample some of the produce that the family is so proud of. Did I mention we’ll have dinner right on the farm? Now that’s experiencing the REAL Italy! This is how Jeff and Steve want their clients to experience Italy and why most clients end up taking several future trips with Go Get Lost.
Throughout our journey, you’ll get your share of time to just “Get Lost” and enjoy Italy at your own pace, whether it’s shopping, enjoying a morning coffee, sneaking off to grab another pizza, or just relaxing in the sun with that special person. In the end, that’s what these experiences are about, enjoying life, experiencing something new, and relaxing with both new and old friends.
